The Mazda RX-7 FD has always been a great car in the WMMT series, so much so that it has multiple characters using it. In WMMT5, the FD becomes a power house car for both Time Attack and Battle and is also considered one of the most user friendly cars in the game. The biggest problem though is in its weight class, where I will go through in the battle section later.

The handling on this car is on par with the RX8, and together they hold the title of ‘best handling car’ in the WMMT5 game. It is light, responsive and keeps speed in turns and recovers in almost the same instant as you counter-steer. Whilst this is amazing, it suffers in being very light against some of the bigger cars and even the Evos.

The key in winning with the handling in this car is not in fighting other cars, but in beating them in and out of a corner where they lose more speed than you.
This size of the car is also just about right for everything. Long enough to block well with but small enough to fit into tight spaces, it is perfect.

Just short of top tier, the top speed in this car is amazing. Although it is not a major difference in battles with boost or hard blocking battles, however if you play Time Attack or boost off battles it will really show. Put together with its superior handling, you’re not only doing better in and out of corners, you are also pulling away or catching up on straights to compound those gains in the turn. Win/Win in my book.

Acceleration on this car is pretty average when comparing cars of similar or better tier for battling purposes. The 5 gears really hurt the early acceleration to the point where you might always have to concede the initial start of the race. Even then, when facing a typically aggressive opponent you will always have to keep in the back of your mind that any mistake could end up in a 50/50 situation where your acceleration will lose it for you. Aside from the early gears though, 4th and 5th are standard and are not really worth mentioning.The real pain is in 2nd and 3rd because of its range.

As mentioned previously, this car is amazing but it has one fatal flaw: battling against other opponents. This car can run, steer and manoeuvre itself to victory, but when you’re caught you’re at a very big disadvantage. It is a very light car and will often get blocked or pushed into corners when caught, and because of the lacking 2nd and 3rd gears you will fall further behind when you try to recover, as opposed to an E9 or R32.

Simply put, this car is a running car in the average person’s hands and should not be considered as the blocking car unless absolutely necessary. This can be overcome with skill of course, but for the average racer this holds true.

PROS:

– Amazing top speed
– Best TA car
– A great running car
– Looks pretty good with all parts

CONS:
– Very light weight
– Once caught, the real battle begins
– Low range on 2nd and 3rd gear compared to 6 gear cars
– Not a good blocking car

FINAL WORDS:
The RX-7 is the standard that everyone sets themselves at the highest level of time attacking. The superior handling, coupled with decent top speed, enable this car to close the gaps or open them up when required. However, the only drawback of this car is that it cannot block as well as other cars and will often struggle when facing hard blockers or heavier cars. This is a great car to learn the strengths and weaknesses of other cars in, and having one of these cars to your collection will be extremely beneficial in WMMT5.

Trivia:
Like its fellow rotary cars, the SA22C,FC3S,SE3P, and 110s, when the FD3S reaches the rev limit, it emits a high pitch beeping sound to indicate that you should shift up. This is akin to the car in real life where it has a similar function. This can be useful as it is a sound cue rather than relying on a racing meter rev limiter light or conventional meter that you have to look at.
